decaf - brazilian swiss water process

from $19.50

We taste honeydew, toasted marshmallows, and cocoa nibs in this Swiss Water Process coffee from the Chapada de Minas region of Brazil. Decaf coffee doesn’t have to come at the cost of flavor and enjoyment. It is true that many coffee drinkers simply want the boost of energy that caffeine provides, but that’s not going to be true with this coffee! We have chosen this decaffeinated coffee because we believe that you will enjoy the flavor and aroma that gives you warm feelings of sitting around a campfire with your friends.

We sourced Brazil Primavera SWP through Ally coffee, in partnership with Fazenda Primavera farm. Fazenda Primavera has been producing coffee since the 1970s and produces approximately 12,000 bags annually. They focus their operations on sustainability, incorporating techniques that minimize environmental damage. Water used in the depulping process is recycled to produce energy for the farm. Further, the pulp is then used as a natural compost for fertilization.

Brazil Primavera was decaffeinated through the Swiss water process. This begins with the removal of the silver skin of the bean, then transferring the beans to a tank of clean water to soak, and further passing a low-caffeine green coffee extract through the water to extract the caffeine from the bean. The green coffee extract that is now rich in caffeine, can be used in extracting caffeine from further batches.

A quick educational note on decaf… Always look at the method of how a decaf had the caffeine removed to make sure it was a non-solvent based technique. In other words, make sure you’re not drinking chemicals in your coffee. All of the decaf coffees we carry are non-solvent methods (never any chemicals) mostly utilizing the swiss-water technique.
