Roast Degree: Light - Medium

We taste a calm orange acidity, and cinnamon raisin with a smooth mouthfeel, in this washed process coffee from the El Progress Department of Guatemala.

Sierra de Las Minas

This coffee is grown in the Sierra de Las Minas mountain range in eastern Guatemala, located between the valleys of the Polochic and Motagua rivers. This mountain range is a biosphere reserve that is home to many native plants and animals. Winds from the east hit the mountain range, creating a humid cloud forest. As the air rises, moisture is lost, creating a dry desert like climate on the west side of the Sierra de Las Minas.

Sierra de Las Minas is translated as “mountain of mines”, and gets its name from the jade and marble mining in the area. Heavy rain causes these rocks to be uprooted and spread throughout the land. Jade is sold in the San Antonio La Paz community.

San Antonio La Paz

San Antonio La Paz is a small municipality located in the southern region of the El Progreso Department in the Sierra de Las Minas Mountain range. It has a relatively dry climate, but three rivers (Rio Agua Caliente, Rio Grande, Rio Motagua) feed into this community, allowing for irrigation and household uses. This agricultural community cultivates coffee, corn, beans, tomatoes, and sugar cane.
